Our Barley Malt
Malt is made by germinating cereal grains by soaking them in water and then drying with hot air. At Freedom, we mill our own malt from English barley directly on site at the Brewery.
We only use English barley to mill malt for our lagers. Depending on which lager we’re brewing, we use different varieties of malt, including lager malt, cara malt and crystal malt. The balance of malts helps to shape the authentic taste and aroma of our lagers.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, once it’s served its purpose in the brewing process, we give the spent grain to a local farmer who uses it as feed for his cattle.
